Travel vaccines in Dagenham: what you need to know
Dagenham is one of the most diverse boroughs in east London, and its residents travel constantly — family visits to Nigeria, Ghana, Pakistan and India, Hajj and Umrah to Saudi Arabia, and holidays across the Gulf, the Caribbean and Southeast Asia. That mix runs well beyond the usual tourist trail.
Brooks Pharmacy's travel clinic is right on Wood Lane in the heart of Becontree, minutes from Dagenham Heathway. There's no GP referral, no long wait, and free patient parking on the door — most travellers here are seen the same week, often the same day.
We keep late-afternoon slots so you can get vaccinated after work rather than taking a day off for the surgery.
This guide to private travel vaccinations is written and clinically reviewed by the pharmacist team at Brooks Pharmacy, led by Superintendent Pharmacist Gurvinder Singh Sembhi (GPhC 2030374), following NaTHNaC TravelHealthPro guidance and the UK Health Security Agency Green Book.
The most common travel destinations from east London and Essex
The destinations our travellers ask about most often, with the vaccines usually indicated:
- Pakistan & India — Hepatitis A and Typhoid for most trips; consider Hepatitis B, Rabies and a Tetanus/Diphtheria/Polio booster. Japanese Encephalitis for rural India in the monsoon. Malaria prophylaxis for some regions, and polio boosters may apply for longer stays.
- Bangladesh & Sri Lanka — Hepatitis A and Typhoid; consider Japanese Encephalitis, Rabies and Hepatitis B.
- Saudi Arabia (Hajj / Umrah) — Meningitis ACWY is mandatory for the visa; Hepatitis A, Typhoid and seasonal flu are recommended.
- West & East Africa (Ghana, Nigeria, Kenya, Uganda) — Yellow Fever is required for entry to most countries and you'll need a valid ICVP certificate at the border. Hepatitis A, Typhoid and a Tetanus booster are recommended, and malaria tablets are essential.
- Caribbean & Southeast Asia — Hepatitis A and Typhoid; consider Rabies and Japanese Encephalitis for parts of Asia. Dengue is endemic in both — bite avoidance is the main protection.
Hajj and Umrah vaccinations
The Saudi Ministry of Health requires all pilgrims aged 1 and over to hold a valid Meningitis ACWY certificate at the point of visa application — given at least 10 days before arrival and within the last 5 years. We administer Menveo and issue the certificate the same visit, and recommend Hepatitis A, Typhoid and seasonal flu because of food, water and crowd exposure during the pilgrimage.
NHS vs private routes
The NHS funds some travel vaccines free at GP surgeries for eligible destinations — the combined Tetanus/Diphtheria/Polio booster, Hepatitis A, Typhoid, Cholera and MMR. Yellow Fever, Rabies, Hepatitis B for tourism, Japanese Encephalitis and Meningitis ACWY for tourism (including Hajj) are private nationwide. If you have time, ask your GP about the NHS-funded ones first; for everything else, last-minute trips, or appointments outside surgery hours, we routinely vaccinate same-week and same-day.
